California is offering free condoms to teens, ages 12-19, in select counties.

The state will mail up to 10 condoms per month for free to any teen who asks. It’s unclear whether parental consent or notification factors into the process, but as far as we can tell all the teens have to do is submit a request; the state will mail the condoms, no questions asked.

Yes, this is repulsive, and will only encourage more promiscuity among teenagers. Yes, they’re using public funds to do this. Yes, California’s economy is still in a slump, and its government has been trying for years to come up with enough money to make ends meet. No, this program does not make any sense.
